Blame my blog system for turning carvery into "car very" -- I've tried to fix it twice, and it keeps reappearing. I'm hoping it will appear correctly in this comment. Maybe it is s subtle attempt to keep people from enjoying roast with all that rich gravy. LOL!

Thanks, Mike, for posting!

Very well written article, Jo Ann.

As a British pub lover, I think you've got the basics down perfectly. Except for that "car very". I thought it was a typo first time, but then it kept cropping up. Car very? What car? Very what? :-)

It's one word - "carvery" - referring to the "carving" of the roast meats.

And your husband sounds like a sensible man - please tell your U.S. friends that we DON'T drink "warm beer"; we drink it at cellar temperature, which should be cool, although not icy cold (which would kill the flavour). Real ale is like wine, in that it requires careful looking after by an expert cellarman. You may get the occasional bad pint - just as some pubs are simply downright lousy - but don't misjudge all the others if you fall unlucky first time.

And of course, you're mostly talking about quiet village pubs in touristy (or at least rural) areas. Pubs in the rougher areas of British cities are usually best avoided if you're not a "regular".

But of course you know all that, being regular visitors to the UK by the sound of things!

Keep up the good work!

Hey there got the book yesterday in the mail, finished it today. I could not put it down. Great finish the the serise. I loved the book, you did a wonderful job of mixing the romance and the ghosts. I love how you brought in those other things in your book. I don't want to go into detail and give anything away if some else reads this. Thank you I loved the book.

I came across this picture while looking up Bedford Place and found your comments delightful.

Tricia mentions fish and chips. I am sure some Americans may be confused by the word "chips". These are not what Americans call chips which the English call crisps. These chips are a bit like French Fries. The difference is that if French Fries are Audrey Hepburn, English chips would be Xena Warrior Princess.
